After evaluating the challenges of its token-based reuse program, Pomona College partnered with Reusables.com and Transact + CBORD to launch the Tap-to-Reuse™ platform, bringing automation and accountability to campus sustainability.
The new system launched in July 2024, with staff trained ahead of fall move-in. Students now use their Transact-powered ID cards for fast, one-tap checkout—no app or deposits required. Smart Return Bins, available 24/7 across campus, allow returns in less than three seconds. A 14-day automatic charge encourages timely returns, while real-time dashboards give dining teams clear visibility into inventory, carbon savings, and engagement trends.
